Samak Meshwe and the Aroma... Eid Mubarak

I cooked for my Arab friends. They cooked samak meshwe the other day for me.
The difference is I used Malaysian spices and herbs, and they used olive oil and butter, and cheese, lots. Normally my friends would all congregate to the kitchen and waited with anticipation, drooling, and dripping, while I cooked.

This time.. the house was so very quiet, extremely quiet.

Esam shouted from the living room...
"Mohamed!! What have you done to your socks!!!!"

"Why? What's wrong?"

"I am going to throw them stinking stuff. I am. And I'm going to do it right now!!!!"

"Heyyy.. it is not my socks you are smelling, you skunk. It is the belachan* I am using in my cooking"

"What's Belachan?"

"It is prawn-paste that brings out the best in Malay cooking, especially sent by my mom. You!!!!"

"Ohhh my God! Why didn't you say so right from the beginning? It wouldn't have smelt SO bad should I know it is in your cooking, and NOT coming from your socks you Malay!!!"

I laughed my ass* off

And still laffing

The closing of Ramadhan brings back lovely memories I had with Essam and the gang. We jested, we quarreled, we fought; but most of all we loved each other to the core.

Here's wishing a very special Eid Mubarak to my readers, and to Esam Bahr, Abu Gasim, Mostafa(5 different faces, 5 different Mos), another Esam (A. Gader), Ahmad B, Sami B., Naguib, Enver K, Anwar Suleman, M Al-Warady, A. Al-Abbasi, Tahsin Zonguldak, Ibrahim Cevik, Ramadhan Taseltein, K. Beroglou, Zubee K, Abu Abd Salam, Khaled Ireland (F Whitbread), Zuher, Slimane Debbar and his twin, Youseff Guelma, M Guidom, Ismael Batna, and the many more who will storm in any minute now "HOW COULD YOU FORGET ME, MOHAMED?? HOW DARE YOU!!!! "

Please do forgive me

Selamat Hari Raya D. I remember Hari Raya in the UK was a nightmare; to be precise, several nights or mares hehe. The Pakistanis ad the Deshis celebrate on different days, then comes the Arabs, and the Malaysians sometimes had to have their own Hari... Not a good image surely. The tengkars nak buka or tutup mesjid.. ahh very embarassing.
I hope those days are over.
May you have a Day to contemplate, and celebrate.
Socks? ehhh jgn2 it was?? hehehe

Bersempena dengan Aidil Fitri tahun 2008 ini, Abang Bear mintak maaf atas segala keterlanjuran .....kita melangkah meninggalkan ramadhan yg barakah dgn berat hatinya di samping gembira menyambut tibanya syawal yg mulia.... semoga persaudaraan kita kekal dan sentiasa dalam redha Allah.....

Ketupat diletak di atas para
Rendang diletak di bawah titi
Andai ada tersilap bahasa
Maaf dipinta menyusun jari

Adat jauh kata mengata
Adat dekat puji memuji
Andai ada tersilap kata
Maaf dipinta sepuluh jari

Sungai disusur sepanjang sehari
Dalam gelap menangkap ikan
Kami menyusun sepuluh jari
Salah dan silap harap maafkan

Selamat Hari Raya Aidilfitri
Maaf zahir dan batin dari Abang Bear

wassalam

Salam Abang Bear a.k.a. Beruang madu.. nice of you to drop by. Thanks for visiting. Dtglah selalu.

Ada bawa honey tak? Madu kita di Malaysia (madu asli) tak se sedap bottled honey from Australia. Kenapa yek? Ada sesuatu yg kureng ker? atau yg sedap itu tak semestinya bagus? Jawab Bang, jgn tak jawab :)

Selamat Hari Raya to u

Queen-o-majesty. Yes indeed, alhamdulillah. It was slightly glum (perhaps only for me, first raya yatim piatu) but we got by splendidly. There was a gig; the yearly family affair and Count is bent on singing come next raya inshaAllah :)

With the singing, CB will woo my queen, none other than Countess B. You requesting any number, O Queen?

haha Count, we too have our annual Raya Karaoke do at a bro-in-law's house. My husband the KOTH always is the one hogging the mike ... needless to say, he is the one with the best voice, 'perasan' or not, who knows!!

"Jangan Ada Dusta di Antara Kita" ... that's what he wants to duet with me, but unfortunately, I don't sing. Croak maybe, but not sing. Maybe you and Countess can sing that song - it's a lovely one.

Count Byron said...

Mmmm Casey la tu.

Yes Queen. Tapi kami ni kan kan.. org tua. Lagu mcm Smlm ku bermimpi, The way it used to be, Reflections of My life, All I have to do is dream.. lagu2 gitew you :)
